Let's say you're interested in improving the reading process as much as possible.
There are really only a few things you can do:
Improve inputs. Not all reading material is equal, and you can improve the process by choosing higher "quality" books, papers and articles.
Improve the reading process. Improve the actual reading process itself. This, traditionally, is where speed-reading fits in (but I think it is BS).
Improve the post-reading process.
